The Decision that Made All the Difference

The Decision that Made All the Difference

We started with practically nothing – no people, no equipment. I needed to be resourceful to deliver results,” said Joan when asked how she started with Personal Collection.

It has been 10 years now since Joan Lim first set her eyes on the familiar Personal Collection logo today. Joan started on a consultancy basis before joining the company full time. According to her, she had apprehensions and was really unsure of her decision to join a start up company. “When I joined the company, nobody believed in Personal Collection. It was a very challenging start. What made it worse was that I was practically struggling with myself – with the decision I made,” said Joan.

Joan recounted how she learned to strategize without sacrificing quality standards. She said she needed to be resourceful to deliver results when people and equipment were not there to make the job easier. However, she found herself being part of a company which grew faster than she could have ever imagined. The company started to acquire the needed equipment and from then, Joan and her colleagues saw the company offering six products to 47 varied offerings 10 years later.

There were struggles along the way that at some point, I was really re-thinking my decision. But with the will to move on and through supportive colleagues and friends who helped along the way, struggles became experiences. Experiences became learnings. And learning became fulfilments,” shared Joan.

Joan believes that she is now stronger, smarter, and wiser as an individual because of Personal Collection.  She asserts that the company really sees the potential within a person, which according to her, is the “Diamond within us all.” As Joan recounts her stories with Personal Collection, she made it clear that there is really something very special in where she works – that Personal Collection is a company that values people because the people and the company journey together towards a GREATER LIFE.

Serve and do things without expecting anything in return. Stretch yourself and don’t get contented with what you already know. Above all, NEVER ever give up,” said Joan.

From her humble beginnings, Joan now works towards a GREATER LIFE with Personal Collection as the AVP for Product Innovation & Development (PIDD).
